Research topics

During our third meeting on Thursday 26 January, we discussed several important subjects. To give the summer school a regular ‘heart beat’, we decided to schedule biweekly meetings on Wednesdays. Furthermore, deadlines were set for contacting companies for corporate support. Before our next meeting, every ground should at least have contacted a few companies.

We also discussed several suggestions for research topics within the domain of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO):

This list is (of course) not conclusive. As we’re still looking for corporate participants, we’re also still open for suggestions for research topics from companies interested in BPO. Contact us if you want us to do research on a specific topic that can help your company in taking the next steps in BPO!

Research topic and destination

On Wednesday 11 January 2012, the second meeting was held. During the meeting, we discussed research opportunities and determined the destination of the MBI Summer School 2012.

After considering Israel, Palestine and the United Arabian Peninsula as possible destinations, Bangladesh turned out to be the preferred destination. Bangladesh is one of the Next Eleven and an upcoming country for outsourcing, due to relative low labor costs and the huge pool of talented ICT professionals.

The Bangladesh government has taken several initiatives to build an ICT-driven nation for a knowledge-based society. A country-wide ICT-infrastructure is developed to ensure access to information by every citizen to facilitate empowerment of people, and people are encouraged to obtain a degree in computer science in order to respond to the global demand for skilled manpower in ICT.

Therefore, the research theme for this year’s Summer School is Business Process Outsourcing.

First meeting

The first (informal) meeting to discuss possible topics and locations for the Summer School 2012 was held on thursday 13 october 2011.

The slides used during the meeting can be found here.

They propose a destination, with theme and all. For questions, don’t hesitate to ask them to either Sjaak, Slinger or Thijs (the latter probably the quickest in answer).

New website

Welcome to the new website of the MBI Summerschool 2012!

On this website, we will post updates about our progress in searching for sponsors, and of course about our research.
